The quickest knitting I've ever done.
Rick left for Alaska last week, and his team started their climb of Mt. McKinley on Friday. He may or may not regain cell phone reception in about a week, or I might not hear from him until I'm actually in Alaska myself. And yes, I'm on the verge of crazy. The longest I've gone without hearing from Rick on one of his mountaineering trips has been two days.
But anyway, this was supposed to be a post about knitting. I swear! About a week before Rick left, he asked if I could knit a hat for his trip. You see, Rick's head is kind of on the small side (small like he usually buys boys' hats instead of men's hats) and the hat he had purchased for the climb had extra material that bunched up at the top under his climbing helmet.
That boy is so lucky he married a knitter. After the predictable, "What? You're telling me this NOW?", I found a suitable pattern, made a trip to Gourmet Yarn, and Rick had his hat within forty-eight hours.
Pattern: free pattern at Kis*Knit
Yarn: Debbie Bliss Cashmerino
Needles: Knit Picks Options size 6, used as circular and magic loop
Modifications: Though Rick's head is small, I needed to add two more repeats of 10 stitches for a total of 100 stitches cast on. It fits under his helmet perfectly, as you can see in the requisite "I am a mountain climber" shot (which by the way, should totally be submitted to Petzl as an advertisment for helmets, don't you think?).

I have a feeling both you and Rick will say thanks several times for the perfect hat you knitted for his climb. Besides it is another way of sending your love with him.
